Roy McCarthy is an artist, graphic designer and photographer with commercial experience in print and online media.
He received his first professional design brief in 1994 after a tutor at Liverpool Community College suggested to him that some
real world experience might aid the progression of his coursework.
McCarthy trudged the streets of Liverpool until he found the good folk at the then fledgling music monthly, Groove.
They were in need of a designer. He was in need of a job. Roy was thrown in at the deep end in a Rumpel Stiltskin style
(”Here’s a room. Here’s a Mac. Weave us a magazine by sunrise”)
He graciously accepted the challenge and stayed at Groove for three years.
In mid ‘97 McCarthy joined a brand new web design and hosting company, Netscan UK. There he developed
a skill for designing simple, elegant web solutions for a wide range of clients. One of his websites, Model Agency Net,
was a finalist in the 1999 Yell UK Internet Awards.
In 2000 Roy was targeted by Books For Learning Ltd; a Lancashire company specialising in the publication of
adult learning materials. The task in hand was to renew the brand image of the entire company and oversee their print and
internet portfolio. Roy remained their head of design for almost four years.
January ’04 saw Roy McCarthy leaving Books For Learning Ltd to work freelance. Since then he has designed
print and online solutions for numerous delighted clients, whilst maintaining a successful career as an artist and photographer.
As a designer, Roy McCarthy has the ability to take a project from the very first idea he and the client bash out on a scrap of A4,
through to the shiny finished article - on time and on budget.
As an artist and photographer he has exhibited in several galleries and his work is owned by collectors in Liverpool, London, Europe and New York. |
